Rootwork for Beginners

Rootwork for Beginners

January 1, 2022

For those who have never done rootwork (Hoodoo) or any type of spiritual work before, wish to get started, but do not have a mentor, this can be a little daunting. Therefore, it’s best to take small steps at first.

I’d suggest getting:

  •  a few condition oils in the areas that you intend to manifest changes
  • white or coloured candles
  • a few appropriate herbs to dress

OR

  • fixed candles that are already dressed with oils and appropriate herbs

If money is not an issue, I’d also recommend buying some protection and cleansing products as well because there is a possibility the work may attract some stray spirits.

Although there is usually no cause for alarm as most of them are harmless (helpful even), but a few can be hostile. Still, remember, there is no reason to fear them. Always stand in your spiritual power.

Beginners typically do not have any natural spiritual protection (spirit guides/allies) at the initial stage. Hence, the usage of protection products will shield you from any potential spiritual and physical harm. When you advance further down the spiritual path, your guides will start coming around.

Cleansing products such as Chinese Wash, Uncrossing, and Van Van come in handy too. They keep the energies clean, which helps in improving our overall luck. Anytime we are feeling down on luck, it simply calls for a good spiritual cleanse of our space and ourselves.

As for an altar, there is no requirement for one. You just need an area to light the candles, preferably in private, as this will allow you to focus and pray the intentions in peace.

This is important. Like I have mentioned in an earlier post, our energy makes up a portion of the work. Otherwise, you can pretty much do the spells anywhere. I used to do mine on the floor in the beginning, and they worked fine.

Also, try to break down the petition into simpler requests. For example, ask for a hundred dollars to manifest instead of wealth and riches. It will be more likely to happen, and that way, you will not feel discouraged as a beginner.

It is not necessary to call upon any spirits as the oils and herbs contain spiritual elements in them. That (calling spirits) can take place much later when you gain more experience and confidence.

After you have witnessed some success in your work, feeling convinced this is not a sheer bunk, then you can determine whether you want to continue on with this spiritual practice and path. From there, you can advance to other types of work such as laying tricks, mojo bags, moving candle spells, specific spirits, etc.

Now, all these suggestions are for those who are interested in learning rootwork. However, if you have a pressing problem to resolve, and especially so for life and death matters, it is better to hire a spiritual doctor to do the work on your behalf.

A professional would already have the spiritual skills and tools at hand and know which spirits to approach for help, making it easier to obtain a favourable outcome than newbies.

However, please do not fall prey to scammers who guarantee a 100% success rate. There is no such thing. Anyone who tells you that is lying. No human can speak for the spirits.

I will never ever promise my clients that. What I pledge is using my very best spiritual abilities to gain the desired results, if not alleviation or headway. I will also be checking in with my spirits for their guidance every now and then.

On the other hand, if the issue does not require immediate attention, and you would like to try and fix it on your own, then by all means, get whatever essential spiritual products and tools for the work to be performed.

There are no strict rules on what you can or cannot do. If you have an enemy to be dealt with, and it’s for a justifiable reason, go ahead and perform the dark work (Crossing). You are entitled to justice.

After that, cleanse yourself with a hyssop bath and pray the entire Psalm 51. If you are unsure if it is ok to send a curse, consult a spiritual doctor or reader.

Some people do have a talent for rootwork, particularly those who are inherently spiritually aware. More likely, they will be able to pick up Hoodoo effortlessly.

Even if you are lacking in that department, it does not matter. Keep practicing and following the guidelines I had written on how to increase spiritual vibration in the article Spirituality, The World of Spirits.

Do understand my teachings will always incorporate the true essence of spirituality as the underlying aim. If one is solely seeking tangible benefits from the spirits through rootwork without cultivating the inner and outer qualities that make all our spiritual connections (with self, impure, pure, divine) flourish, there is a limit to how far he or she can expand the consciousness.

That means a person does not simply become highly spiritual just by practicing thirty years of Hoodoo or knowing the strongest Witchcraft spells.

If the motivations are strictly earthbound, that’s where the level of spirituality stays too. In the next article, I will write about what happens when our spiritual frequencies raise.
